Four hours after she’d had an enjoyable breakfast with Julian, Ava was on the hunt for her sister. Since she’d finished her story, maybe she and Mia could get in some relaxation. She’d called Mia’s room and there was no answer. Her cell hadn’t been on during the entire trip, and she didn’t know the number to the BlackBerry Mr. Abernathy had given Mia, so Ava decided to just beat the pavement. Knowing Mia, she was probably lying out by the pool somewhere.

Downstairs, Ava spotted Mia holed up at a table in the hotel restaurant with Felix. She thought about leaving them to their privacy. After all, Felix was the type of positive influence that Mia needed in her life. But as she turned to head back to her room, an idea came to her. Maybe Felix could answer some questions she had. Her story was finished, so she wouldn’t be violating his trust. Maybe he knew why no one could get through to India in regard to her prenup.

“Mind if I join you?” Ava said, approaching their table.

“Hey, sissy.”

“Hey, Mia. Hi, Felix.”

“Hello,” Felix said. He looked annoyed that she’d interrupted them, but he covered that with a smile and said, “Of course you can join us.” He stood up while Ava took a seat.

Ava watched in awe as Mia giggled, flirted, and acted like a giddy schoolgirl around Felix. Never in a million years would she have thought her sister would be attracted to a nerdy guy like him. But hey, she thought, maybe opposites do attract.

Ava ordered a light salad and a glass of iced tea, then joined in their conversation. Felix was meticulously outlining the ways wealthy people invest their money. Ava was dumbfounded at Mia’s level of interest. She deduced that it must be because he was talking about money, her sister’s favorite topic.

After they’d all finished eating, Felix asked, “So how’d your story about India turn out?”

“I turned it in this morning, so I’m just going to relax before I fly out day after tomorrow.”

He nodded pensively and Ava decided to jump at her opening.

“So, Julian told me you were trying to encourage India to draw up a prenup.”

He looked unsure of whether that was something he should be discussing.

“Well, uh . . .”

“Ava,” Mia chastised, “don’t ask him about his client’s personal business.”

Ava ignored her sister and leaned in. “Look, Felix, I’m not trying to get anything for my story. That story is done and on its way to the printer. I just don’t understand how you guys could let her enter into a relationship that seems doomed from the start without encouraging her to protect herself.”

“Ava . . .” Mia warned.

Felix held up his hand. “It’s okay, Mia.” He sighed heavily. “Between me and you, I don’t understand it either,” he told Ava. “India has always been so smart about her money. They could get married this week, he could divorce her next week, and he would be entitled to half her money.”
