Four hours after sheâd had an enjoyable breakfast with Julian, Ava was on the hunt for her sister. Since sheâd finished her story, maybe she and Mia could get in some relaxation. Sheâd called Miaâs room and there was no answer. Her cell hadnât been on during the entire trip, and she didnât know the number to the BlackBerry Mr. Abernathy had given Mia, so Ava decided to just beat the pavement. Knowing Mia, she was probably lying out by the pool somewhere.
Downstairs, Ava spotted Mia holed up at a table in the hotel restaurant with Felix. She thought about leaving them to their privacy. After all, Felix was the type of positive influence that Mia needed in her life. But as she turned to head back to her room, an idea came to her. Maybe Felix could answer some questions she had. Her story was finished, so she wouldnât be violating his trust. Maybe he knew why no one could get through to India in regard to her prenup.
âMind if I join you?â Ava said, approaching their table.
âHey, sissy.â
âHey, Mia. Hi, Felix.â
âHello,â Felix said. He looked annoyed that sheâd interrupted them, but he covered that with a smile and said, âOf course you can join us.â He stood up while Ava took a seat.
Ava watched in awe as Mia giggled, flirted, and acted like a giddy schoolgirl around Felix. Never in a million years would she have thought her sister would be attracted to a nerdy guy like him. But hey, she thought, maybe opposites do attract.
Ava ordered a light salad and a glass of iced tea, then joined in their conversation. Felix was meticulously outlining the ways wealthy people invest their money. Ava was dumbfounded at Miaâs level of interest. She deduced that it must be because he was talking about money, her sisterâs favorite topic.
After theyâd all finished eating, Felix asked, âSo howâd your story about India turn out?â
âI turned it in this morning, so Iâm just going to relax before I fly out day after tomorrow.â
He nodded pensively and Ava decided to jump at her opening.
âSo, Julian told me you were trying to encourage India to draw up a prenup.â
He looked unsure of whether that was something he should be discussing.
âWell, uh . . .â
âAva,â Mia chastised, âdonât ask him about his clientâs personal business.â
Ava ignored her sister and leaned in. âLook, Felix, Iâm not trying to get anything for my story. That story is done and on its way to the printer. I just donât understand how you guys could let her enter into a relationship that seems doomed from the start without encouraging her to protect herself.â
âAva . . .â Mia warned.
Felix held up his hand. âItâs okay, Mia.â He sighed heavily. âBetween me and you, I donât understand it either,â he told Ava. âIndia has always been so smart about her money. They could get married this week, he could divorce her next week, and he would be entitled to half her money.â
